The information and resources on this page will help you achieve that goal.
At JPMS, Ms. Schartiger, your media specialist, is our SSL Coordinator.

Need a Form?
All MCPS SSL Opportunities must be:

•For a registered non-profit agency:
Montgomery County Volunteer Center
•In a public place
•Supervised (not by a parent or relative)
•For volunteer service only (not paid)
•For no more than 8 hours in a day

MCPS Form 560-51: Student Service Learning Activity Verification
This form is used to document a student’s SSL hours and submitted to Ms. Schartiger, who reviews and adds hours to students’ SSL records.

Current Opportunities
Choose Respect Montgomery - RespectFest
March 8-15, 2026 (virtual/online) - Middle school and high school students will have the opportunity to earn up to 5 SSL hours for actively participating in online activities and virtual workshops centered on dating violence and prevention!
March 15, 2026, 1-4 PM - Wheaton Community Recreation Center (in-person) - Middle school and high school students will have the opportunity to earn up to 3 SSL hours for attending this in-person festival focused on spreading awareness about dating violence and prevention! Registration will occur on-site.

The Keeping It Safe Video Contest (Deadline: March 31, 2026)
Students may earn 5 SSL hours for quality video submissions about the risks and dangers of under 21 alcohol use. Interested students may view the contest rules and additional information at this website.

Students can now complete 2 online modules about MCPS Student Expectations.
Completing both modules from the Student Expectations Lessons will earn 3 total SSL hours. The asynchronous modules can be found on every student's Canvas homepage and can be completed at any point during the school year.
SSL hours will be added to students’ SSL records at the central office level - no SSL form is needed.
