Need a Form?

All MCPS SSL Opportunities must be:

•For a registered non-profit agency:

      Montgomery County Volunteer Center

      Non-Profit Search

•In a public place

•Supervised (not by a parent or relative)

•For volunteer service only (not paid)

•For no more than 8 hours in a day

If your service meets these criteria, fill out:

MCPS Form 560-51: Student Service Learning Activity Verification

 

This form is used to document a student’s SSL hours and submitted to Ms. Schartiger, who reviews and adds hours to students’ SSL records.

Student expectations module image.jpg

 

Students can now complete 2 online modules about MCPS Student Expectations.

 

Completing both modules from the Student Expectations Lessons will earn 3 total SSL hours.  The asynchronous modules can be found on every student's Canvas homepage and can be completed at any point during the school year.

 

 SSL hours will be added to students’ SSL records at the central office level - no SSL form is needed.

Montgomery Parks has a number of SSL Opportunities coming up in May!

 

Untold Stories Special Event Support -  The Untold Stories program works with communities throughout the county to share diverse stories in parks, along trails, and online. Volunteers will assist with info-sharing and activities at larger Parks events (e.g. Sligo Fest); assist with public programs (e.g. Walk and Talks); and assist with community meetings that are part of our community outreach and collaboration work. Multiple dates available!

Locust Grove Nature Center – May 15th & May 16th

 

Bike Park Dig Days – help keep some of our special bike parks ready for bikers with hands on trail maintenance. Multiple dates available!

Summer SSL Opportunities for Rising 7th through Rising 12th Graders

SSL Opportunities with 2026 ELO Summer Programs

·       The Division of Title 1 is excited to announce the return of student volunteers for the 2026 ELO Summer Programs.

Age Requirement: Students must be in grades 7-12 for the 2026-2027 school year.

·       The program runs from July 7 to July 30, Monday through Thursday, for 5.5 hours per day.

·       Student volunteers are welcome to utilize MCPS bus transportation provided to program participants within each school’s normal catchment area, and volunteers will be provided breakfast and lunch daily, free of charge.

·       The window to register as a volunteer will be open from April 27 to June 5. Registration will take place on a first come, first served basis.

·       Student volunteers may only register for one location and must be available for at least 12 of the 15 days of the program.

BOARD OF ELECTIONS LAUNCHES RECRUITMENT PROGRAM OF STUDENTS GRADES 6-12 FOR ITS AWARD-WINNING FUTURE VOTE PROGRAM

The Montgomery County Board of Elections is inviting school-age students, grades 6-12, to participate in its “Future Vote” program. Students must be able to speak, read, and write the English language.

 

Students with bilingual and American Sign Language skills are encouraged to apply. The initiative combines civic participation and the opportunity to observe democracy in action. Volunteers will earn Student Service Learning (SSL) hours for their service. Training is required for students and guardians. Details and volunteer expectations are provided at the training.

 

To apply online, or for more information, guardians can text FV, plus their email to 77788, or visit www.777vote.org, then select the “Future Vote” tab. Guardians must register interested students by May 26, 2026.
